Art's Warm Welcome: 22nd Annual Auction for RGS
Despite Brattleboro's struggles of the past year, community spirit and generosity continue to prevail. The River Gallery School on Main Street was the recent recipient of relief grants, from Thomas Thompson Trust and Kahn/Mason Foundation that fund scholarships for survivors of Tropical Storm Irene. Joseph Zinker said, "Creativity is not merely the conception, but the act itself, the fruition of that which is urgent, which demands to be stated." Aid provided classes for artists who lost their studios and collections to those who turned to art for the first time as a means to process their grief and join others on the restorative journey despite economic need. RGS takes pride in its scholarship and outreach programs. To be able to support their mission to include everyone, the school needs our continued support.
This year's 22nd Annual Benefit Auction -- with its theme "Welcome!" -- expects to outdo the gala events of years past, with delicious food and remarkable bargains. A generous bid can take you to Nantucket, Key West, or on a South African Photo Safari. Win a language course at SIT or original works by local artists. Foodies will delight. Try for a farmstead "game" night, planned and prepared for you, a Mexican Fiesta, a five-course gourmet meal paired with specialty wines, or a romantic dinner for two at The Chesterfield Inn, Peter Havens, or TJ Buckley's. And if beautiful things are more your thing, take home a handcrafted garden arbor, a stone birdbath, pottery, glasswork, or a painting.
Join the fun for the price of a $20 paddle on May 12 at 5 p.m. at The River Garden with appetizers and a silent auction. The live auction follows from 6:30 to 7:30, followed by dessert. Support RGS and make a difference in building a resilient community.
